Not only is her imagination very fertile… but, she is also good at making sure she never leaves the public eye.. she keeps doing something or the other…
Earlier this week, she proudly announced that Dumbledore is Gay! Well, not that anybody is bothered about Dumbledore’s sexuality, we love Dumbledore, for what he is and will continue to do so.. But, what it certainly did was disappoint HP fans, the disappointment was not the news but the irrelevance of the same. Was this piece of information necessary? Especially months after the HP phenomenon had died down…! Well, no one other than JKR herself can answer that one…
And the latest… after openly declaring that Harry Potter and the deathly hallows was the last of the Harry Potter series… she says, it may not be so!!!
Well… not that we are complaining…!! We would love to have more Harry Potter books coming, wont we!?

Read ur post again.. “Especially months after the HP phenomenon had died down”.. She must have thought that she had to make a statement to remind fans, “Boss I exist… so does the series”

Oh Jesus now come on. We’d be happy to read another Potter book but this is just not fair! How can she keep backtracking on every single thing she says? And then she turns people gay and says that she didn’t expect the people to get annoyed? I thought she was an intelligent woman!
And I went around justifying her to my father that once she has said that the series is over, it’s over and that she’ll never write about that again. But here we are, I’ve lost another time and blah, I don’t like losing.

Yup, I also found out about it just a couple of days back. I don’t mind honestly, for the fact that he is gay or for the fact that JKR shared this bit so much later, after the series ended.
Even before the 7th book came out, she had announced that she will share more detailed info about the characters after the 7th book, not just in form of another book in the series. And as with any fictional story, the author does intentionally or otherwise not share ALL the details/information about their characters so she knows them more than we do; it’s just that while telling the story, those details might not have been necessary. I was reading how some readers were being critical about the Dumbledore fact and also about her sharing this info at all. I think they’re being paranoid. And she did not volunteer this info; she was asked by a reader about whether Dumbledore ever loved someone and hers was an answer to that question.

You echoed my thoughts totally in this post! Even I don’t have a problem with Dumbledore’s sexuality. The only thing I don’t like about this news flash is that it’s SO unnecessary. I have a big debate going on in my blog on this stuff.
I hope that her novelty doesn’t wear off with the release of another book. If she becomes like Sidney Sheldon, Ludlum, Archer and other commercial writers, then her series will not be valued as much. Though I would love to read another book by Rowling, I just hope that she “retires” gracefully.

Hi, I didn’t here her say that Dumbledore was gay but what do i know but i’m not surprised, the thing between him and the other dude looked too fishy and he never had a girlfriend. PS where do you get your information I never hear anything about Harry Potter except on the news saying which state again baned the books in their schools.

@Chini: Yeah, u r right! But thats such a cheap marketing gimmick!
@Poonam, Anamika: Lol!
@Ish: I am beginning to doubt her sensibilities as well… And trust me if she does that, she is definitely disappointing a lot of readers.. Like Ruhi put it, she should “retire” gracefully!
@Kanan: When u read something like Harry Potter, you like to believe that you too, are a part of that world… And when asked about his love life, she could have said, it remained unfulfilled, where does the sexuality of Dumbledore come into question? Its unwanted!!
@Ruhi: I know what you mean Ruhi… She has earned a lot of good name for herself, she should not tarnish it now with gimmicks like these…
@Roseblossom: Try Harry potter sites like http://www.mugglenet.com

I thought it was great to declare Dumbledore gay – a very important and bold move to further the equality of gay and lesbian folk… I wonder whether the conservatives on this world are now going to burn their children’s Harry Potter books

@Sha: I caught on it a bit late myself
@Anaj: I hope not

Well, I agree that that was some irrelevant piece of information by JKR, but this is one reason I love Harry Potter (as in, the series)–Rowling has so much in detail about every character , and she keeps clarifying and giving details like this gay-news now and then.
I believe our children would read Harry Potter as an epic, and details are always required for such epical work. I am sure you’d have read all pages on Harry Potter on Wikipedia, but did you try out http://www.hp-lexicon.org/ ?
