this is not true. I read somewhere that reliance officials have confirmed that he is still worth only 50 Billion.

Vivek is right, news channels sometimes overhype saying that “rumour” has it…and so on… the wikipedia site also states that reliance industries said that the richest man bit was wrong. He is not richer than bill gates. Plus the share price rally may have momentarily increased his value, but not above the lot of bill gates and LN mittal.
I have also read somewhere that the news is untrue.

I don’t know whether he is really the richest person in the world or not, it may be true that these news channels just want to make money by showing such news but atleast for the first time in history they’ve courage to show such rumors (if its is one) and people also believe on this…
So, in my view this is also a reason to celebrate that today Mukesh Ambani may not be the richest person but he has the capability to be one…
We all should celebrate since Indians has moved up the ladder… :d

Just to create another topic, I read in another blog, Mukesh is compared to Bill gates and Warren buffet.
The question rasied is, is he as philanthroipc like them? Or is he just keeping the money to himself.

Well, why isnt anyone talking about wealth polarization? And why are we celebrating just because someone’s pocket is growing fatter?
I understand that his achievement has to be lauded. But we shouldn’t forget that our country still has people living on Rs.30 a day, should we? The Mukeshs, the Anils and the Mittals might be getting richer and richer but what about the quintessential poor man of the country?
I know I am spoiling the big party mood. But i just couldn’t stop being melancholic when i read about Mukesh’s exploits. Just imagine what a man, who’s still thinking about how to arrange money for his baby’s next day’s food, thinks when he reads about it.
Th calculations are all wrong. The richest man list by Forbes uses different criteria than looking at the share value of their biggest holdings. They also look at the wealth accumulated on land holdings and other factors that are not very clear. In that sense a direct conversion of Rs to Dollars also will pose a problem.
Yes, let us celebrate India!!! WOW! Particularly happy (both for bewitching deep colourful India and … also Bill Gates downfall ah ah ah).

well i applaud ambani’s achievement making it to the top of the world. well someone was supposed to surpass bill gates eventually since he is retiring from his position. he started the process of retiring in 2005 and is bound to be complete by end 2007.
the real question now arises is taht is he a philanthropist like bill gates. cuz bill gates made soo many donations. last year he made quite donations of $5 billion. well if he still manages to be on top of the world even after donating so much, i gotta say he got steel balls.
i tried searching this ambani guys donations and guess wat, i found none. instead i found charities donating him money!!!! WHY?????
anyways let see how long he holds on to this position and if he could ever beat bill gates wealth from 1999 where he passed the $100 billion dollar mark.
