For those who eat Non-Veg, this is a must-see video. At least you should be aware of where your food is coming from!

  1. Its cruel.. but one argues passionately that these things do not happen in India or that certain religion does not allow us this form of killing for meat.. its as if one would justify to no end that eating animals is fine…

    Here is some more reading on this http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2008/03/natural-meat-ea.html

    I think that when we can not chase, hunt, cut/chew raw meat, or be oblivious to pain of animals, then we are fooling ourselves into believing that eating meat is normal.

  2. And i forget to mention, this is a very disturbing video, I doubt if i will consume milk also when i go anywhere except India. I hope Indian milk does not depend on such techniques.

  3. Yes its cruel and yes it might be disturbing, but why this video only?? I agree that a live form which can walk and talk adds much emotion and sentimental appeal but even we vegeterians eat life forms, even we uproot plants and fruits quite cruelly killing many of them in the process of satisfying our needs… If this video was made to make non-veg guys aware of where their food comes from, why dont we have something similar as well….just cause plants dont show emotions doesnt mean that they dont have life form and their killing is allright…Its a normal biological cycle lets not be too judgemental about what one should eat and what not…

  4. @Shyam
    Shyam it is not to pass judgement but in the spirit of good debate that this topic comes up. And irrespective of whether you agree with me/video maker/nova or not, you are very much free to choose your diet.

    My contention here is simple, for tigers, as for other carnivores, eating other animals is essential and natural. But a tiger has the teeth to rip through raw skin, the mind to continue eating a animal in pain, and the agility to chase a animal.

    All other carnivores are equipped with these tools, man is not. We use special tools, we make the meat tender etc.

    Compare the same with a plant, we have it in us to uproot a plant if we need food. The fruits are meant to be eaten so that the seeds are planted. The plants do not have a very developed nervous system to be able to feel pain. Therefore i feel comfortable eating plants.

    All other logic aside, even if animals should be eaten, then why make it a business and treat them wrongly?

  5. @Rahul: I agree with both your points here. If we had to depend on only animals for our survival, it would be a part of ecological balance! This certainly doesn’t justify cruelty!

    @Shyam: I second Rahul here!

  6. Vegetarianism is the second biggest farce in history . Because taking moral high ground saying killing animals is wrong but killing plants is right is nothing but being obscenely irrational . If talks of pain and feelings are going to come out , this discussion will have to become very very technical .
    If someone wants to be a veggie , I have no problem with it . But please don’t think you are doing your karma some might good by being a veggie or something .
    @nova , I am pretty sure we would survive without A/C’s …. don’t you ? What about lip gloss ?? …. and some people just like CHicken Tikka a lot .
    @rahul

    In case you dont know , most non-vegetarian food nowadays come from breeding grounds specially thr for this purpose . Same goes for plants as well. We raise crops , we don’t uproot some arbit plant and eat it .
    And plants do have a nervous system . Atleast most do . And quite a few animals are there who dont have a well developed nervous system as well . Is it okay to eat them ??? I think you are being a hypocrite when u say it’s okay killing life’s without feeling , but no , I cannot and will not stand animals being killed when they feel pain …..
    Will morphine make you eat meat ???

    Btw , Christianity is the first . The biggest farce in history .

  7. Pavan,you got me hooked except for the last statement,
    be good enough to elucidate,
    don’t worry i am not part of any evangelistic movement nor part of bajrang Dal…
    i just wanted to make sure that you are original in your thinking and not trying to get people hooked to the most contested debate topic in the history of earth

  8. Pavan, you do appreciate the fact that there is certain difference in the nervous systems of plants and animals which Rahul was trying to point to? He wasn’t denying the existence of nervous systems in plants. You can always say that we are aware of human pain and thus are bound to sympathise with animals who have similar forms of pain and not so much with plants who may have forms of pain not felt by humans . But hey, isn’t this argument just too specious? You surely don’t mean to alleviate the pain of plants in your life, do you? Because then, you would be suggesting that humans should thrive on animal-diet alone. But vegetarians do mean to alleviate the pain of animals and torture they are made to undergo. And yes, it is so because they can sympathise and that is a form of pain tangible to them. At least sympathise when you can. And it’ll be a fine day when you can go ahead and do something about the pain of plants.
    For the sake of arguments alone, try to be more reasonable than just calling things farce and people hypocrites (one of the most ill-used word).

    p.s. I hope you see how I proved you hypocrite without actually calling you that.
