A trip to Nandi Hills

Krupa visited me this weekend. We booked a cab and went over to Nandi hills to get out of Bangalore pollution and traffic for a day and what a trip it was! We felt connected to mother nature and had an amazing time :)

Here are some pics…

However, people have ruined this beautiful place as well… with writings all over the place…. :( M posting some of those here…

They wouldnt even leave God :(

Govt should take better steps to stop these people…

  1. These pics brought back some old memories, of over a decade ago. :)

  2. hmm…finally..you are visiting places around Bangalore.

  3. wow/. first few pics are awesome ..

  4. @Rachana: Yeahhh finally….

  5. Nice pics !!!

    You hv been taged by me !!! SO you will have to answer those questions for us..

  6. maybe those guys want the proclamation of their love etched in stone.
    although i agree that it is vandalism…. but it made me wonder if that if it is done today it is vandalism, but if it was done 3000 or even 300 years ago, it becomes a national treasure.

  7. So had a great time… :)

    Why Govt??!!

  8. @Arvind: Thanks :)

    @Soham: Thanks :) Check out for my answers :)

    @Ankur Aggarwal: Lol! Shahjahan to Mumtaz ke liye Taj Mahal bana ke chale gaye… In majnuon ko chod gaye… They think they cant make Taj mahal for their loved ones, to why not scribble the names on the stones and declare their love (Gosh!!!)

    They are no inscriptions which will survive long… So, I dont think they will last for 3000 odd years :D

    @Sathish: I know its an inidividual’s responsibility. But, I think its high time Govt step in…

  9. What Govt will do to existing ones(assuming it can prevent new ones to be written)? Do we expect someone to go and wash all names off the rocks?

    @Nita

    These pics brought back some old memories, of over a decade ago.

    :-P what memories exactly? :-P

  10. Ha ha! I agree with Ankur…. its human art… and one man’s art is another’s graffiti!

    This country is as much ours as the next Indian’s. It will be what ALL of us make of it. And as I have always said… “It takes all kinds to make a world”.

    No one can really control the rest of human race, they can only try and influence public opinion for the better. And you have done just that in this post….

  11. well cave paintings by stone age men have known to survive longer … neways apt shayiri.

  12. Well, not very naughty memories I am afraid! :) Very boring from your point of view. Lugging two small kids along with their kiddie food and stuff like that. Nandi Hills was the first place we went to for a picnic after we had shifted to Bangalore. Oh yes one naught memory! One doctor couple with whom we had gone with had injected some gin into frooti tetrapacks and mistakenly one of the kids drank it. No, not mine thank heavans! That little kid was tottering all over the place but the parents found it funny. I remember being shocked at the parents’ casual attitude, but those days I was way too serious! Still I am glad it wasn’t my kid.

  13. mmm… :) so never give up :)

  14. The graffiti reminds me of a nearby park with some sandstone formations. The rock is soft enough to easily carve and people have vandalized the more accessible stone for a hundred years now by carving their initials and the year in the rock. But for some odd reason, no one has taken to painting it yet.

  15. @nita…
    i agree giving liquor to toddlers is irresponsible… but my god u r a very serious person

  16. @Suda: Actually thats a brilliant idea for a country where a substantial number from the working class, are still looking for work to be employed. Maybe all the beggars can be given this work. Nice :)

    @Anamika: Humant art at the cost of preserving the monuments and antiques? I am glad there is enough security over the taj mahal, else you would have names written there too… Gosh!

    @Ankur: Cave paintings were probably done by a paint which couldnt be washed. These are all some times written by chalk!

    @Nita: I find that attitude shocking too and that too a kid of a doctor couple!??? Quite weird must say!

    @Sathish: Yap :)

    @Paul: So, this attitude of vandalising nature is prevelant everywhere? Thats sad :(
