Opinion needed!

Opinion needed!

I was chatting with a friend today after a long time… I am going to quote him/her here to get an opinion about the statement… I would like an unbiased opinion to what he/she said.

Ek aurat ke liye sabse bada achievement and function hota hai ghar grihasti sambhalna … and end result a good child … this is the basic function …wohh agar profession field main bahut successful ho gayi but is basic field main nahin, to usse ek failure hi maana jayega…

For those who cant understand hindi, here is a rough translation: For a woman, the biggest achievement and function is to run the house well, and the end result, a good child. This is the basic function… If she does very well professionally, but is a failure in the basic field, then she will be considered a failure…

What was the first thing that came to your mind when you read this? Your ideas are most welcome! :)

[PS I have hidden any details about the person, even the gender, to obtain a more holistic and unbiased view of the statement!]

Kids

It started with the live coverage of the Red Carpet on E!. It was a splendid delight watching the kids from the movie Slumdog Millionaire adorn the red carpet in their little tuxedos! :) Oh! they all looked like little angels!! :) Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto looked at ease! I liked Irfan Khan’s calm and composed conduct, while Anil totally went over the top! ;) :P

Now, here is a list of the wins so far :)

Best Documentary Short Film: Smile Pinki

This movie is about Pinki, a girl in rural India whose cleft lip has made her a social outcast, has a chance for a new life when she meets a dedicated social worker.

Our very own Slumdog Millionaire was nominated ten times and has already won 4 5 6 7 oscars so far

AR Rahman has won 2 oscars already :D And Gulzar for lyrics!! :D

Update 2: The Indian troupe led by AR Rahman performed on the songs “Jai Ho” and “O Saya”. It was grandeur at its best! :)

Slumdog turned into Anoopdog

Slumdog turned into Anoopdog

Is it a coincidence that I saw Slumdog Millionaire last night (review coming soon) and today morning I turn on the television to watch American Idol Season 8. Frankly, I do not understand western music. I am not into rock or western classical music of any sort. So, it is difficult for me to judge if a singer is good or bad. They all sound the same, unless they are totally off-key.

Coming back to the point, Anoop Desai is the only guy from Indian origin to have made it to the top 36 of American Idol Season 8. He is a calm and composed guy and the judges love him.

I am not sure what kind of effect slumdog millionaire had on Indians and the rest of the world, but I did not find it amusing at all when Ryan Seacrest, the host of this show, actually referred to Anoop as Anoopdog!! :-x

Is that funny? NO!

We Indians are aware of the economic situation in India and the kind of lives people in our slums live. Yes, the lives of some of us are bad enough to be better than that of even a dog. But, things have come a long way ever since we became an independent country and we are positive things will improve! They will. They have to. With brains and attitude like ours, we can not be far behind!

But, labeling a fellow Indian as a dog!????

Mr. Ryan, you certainly have a lot of explaining to do. Apparently, it was Anoop who decided to call himself that!! Well what more can I say to that! Looks like its fashionable to be called “dawwwg”!!! Hmmmpffffff

:) :) :) :)

Have we ever thought of all those things that make us really happy? How many of us actually think about it? What do you think is the cost of that one smile on our face?

Most of us are running towards different things in life… someone wants to be rich… someone wants to be famous… someone wants a good career… someone wants a loving and caring family… someone wants to see the whole world… And how do these ambitions occur to this little mind of ours? Because either from the outside (influence of external world) or from the inside, something tells us that if we achieved so and so, we will be happy!!

Now, none of this is wrong… It is a progressionist behavior to be ambitious! If we were not that, we wud still be in caves, hunting for a living!

What is wrong here is the propensity to miss out on the little nudgets of happiness that life throws at us in the aim of reaching out for something which we believe will engulf us in profound bliss! Some fortunate ones even achieve what they set out to… And they will testify for this fact! No matter what you think will give you happiness… And no matter how much to try to run after happiness… it will elude you in unforeseen ways! :)

Have you heard of the story of the famous deer who would search for a pleasant smell all over the place only to realise at the end that he himself was the source of it, nothing else? It is such an old fable and so true!

So, lets us here take a pledge to find happiness in every small thing that we can :) After all, it is not the destination which matters afterall, it is the journey that leads to it :)

Cheers to all you beautiful people! :)

[PS I just cudnt think of a more apt title for this post :) ]

Birthdays are too overrated!!

Birthdays are too overrated!!

Hey ya me back again! And this time again m thinking out loud so please dont hit me if you find this post grossly inadequate in terms of content!!

I was another one of those people who thought birthdays were meant to be special until this one!!

I mean what is there to cheer about? If you are 10, ok maybe yes, u put on a nice little joker hat and entertain fellow kids at a birthday bash fondly thrown by your parents… Parents are happy coz their cute little brat is growing up… and you are happy… maybe coz u r nearer to turning into a teen!

When you are teen and facing all those teen problems, birthdays still make you happy… why? Coz there is always that sweet sixteen to look forward to :)

And at sixteen when you neither a teen nor an adult, you just cant wait to grow up… coz u want to be taken seriously by everyone!! So again, you are happy on your birthdays!!

But is there a reason to celebrate when you are on the wrong side of 20s??? Naaaahhh!! Dont think so! There is only thing that should be done on getting a day older and that is to sulk, precisely what I am doing right now!

So, PLEASE do not wish me a happy birthday!!!!
