You know you have stayed away from India for too long when…
2009 November 9
- You hunt for toilet papers in Indian style bathrooms!
- You switch on the ignition of the gas stove, waiting for the stove to light up on its own! (I am glad, I did not cause an accident because of this)
- The sound of temple artis and vehicles honking start getting on your nerves! Why do people have to be so loud?
- It is a relief to talk to your domestic help in Hindi
- You are about to gulp down a glass of tap water and are stopped in the nick of time by your mother!
- When you are tooo happy to pay the taxi/rickshaw wallah more than they deserve because of the exchange rate!
- When you forget “tipping” at the local restaurants and invite glares from waiters!!
- When you start getting scared of stray “dogs”
Any others u can think of?

When you are tooo happy to pay the taxi/rickshaw wallah more than they deserve because of the exchange rate! – And they r the happiest to have u here
Btw, hv u come home nw?
hehehehehee
I was home a while ago… Back to Sing now!
When you forget “tipping” at the local restaurants and invite glares from waiters!!
nice point
Lolz!!!
Hehehee fortunately I havent forgotten what India is all about
Just a few hitches here n there
Have not been out of India ..But a point that reminds me that can probably be added to ur list is
When u feel like talkin to ur dear ones and realize that u r in day and they in good night time
Thats a very valid point… does not hold true much for people in Asia though
And madamji, dint know good ol Italy was in India!
“You switch on the ignition of the gas stove, waiting for the stove to light up on its own!”
Been there!!
Lolz!
Welcome to my blog, Matt
To Add upon:
1.While walking down the street you actually look for a Big garbage bin all around even for a smallest piece of paper.
2.For people who Smoke, they look around and get confused for which actually is the Smoking place.
3.When you expect the local Trains to leave at sharp Nth Min Nth Sec from the stop.
4.When you wait exactly at the same time given for the plumber,carpenter,maison..etc etc inspite the next day..;-)
5.When you pick a call and Say “Mushi Mushi/Hola..etc etc..”
and the best one,,
5.When you just look around and try to figure that where are closed public urinal spaces blown off and see people enjoying their natural discovered way.
Hehehehhehe!!! Good ones!!! Have actually suffered the first one the most!!!
Lol.. nice ones
Thanks
Interesting ones, even from the commentators! How about a post with the opposite, like “You know you have stayed in India too long when….”
for example looking for a mug in the bathroom!
Hahahah thats a good idea… I think u shud venture such a post, wat say?
Trip to Italy madamji was just a vacation ..This feel wld more come to ppl who stay for a long time ..So technically Italy is out of India
but in regard to this post I have still not stayed away from India
Hehehhehehehe yeah true
When you forget “tipping” at the local restaurants and invite glares from waiters!! ???
I thought that should not at all come under “It happens in India.” On the contrary, it is considered very rude in the US and Europe to forget a tip. Also, you can actually manage in India by 5% or so (if at all), whereas the norm is 15-20% in the US and Europe.
Hahahahha somehow the culture in Singapore and HK is very different. In fact, sometimes people refuse the tip u give them. The restaurants charge 15% of the bill amount as service charges anyways!
the stray dog thing scares me the most…how will i survive when i visit
Hehehhehheehe
you read posts like this, and go..”Yeah!, so very true”
Laughing my heart out!
You convert everything back to dollars (or into the currency of the foreign place u came) and find everything cheap in India as a result!
You can’t cross the streets without a ignal and crossing to help!
You expect service at shop counters and complaints to be taken seriuosly!
You grumble abt the weather the dirt the quality of everything and what not!
Lolzzz!!! Last one is sooooooo true
Oh sounds interesting. I didn’t know all this happens
