You know you have stayed away from India for too long when…

  • You hunt for toilet papers in Indian style bathrooms!
  • You switch on the ignition of the gas stove, waiting for the stove to light up on its own! (I am glad, I did not cause an accident because of this)
  • The sound of temple artis and vehicles honking start getting on your nerves! Why do people have to be so loud?
  • It is a relief to talk to your domestic help in Hindi :)
  • You are about to gulp down a glass of tap water and are stopped in the nick of time by your mother!
  • When you are tooo happy to pay the taxi/rickshaw wallah more than they deserve because of the exchange rate! :P
  • When you forget “tipping” at the local restaurants and invite glares from waiters!!
  • When you start getting scared of stray “dogs” :P

Any others u can think of?

Interesting ones, even from the commentators! How about a post with the opposite, like “You know you have stayed in India too long when….”
for example looking for a mug in the bathroom!

When you forget “tipping” at the local restaurants and invite glares from waiters!! ???

I thought that should not at all come under “It happens in India.” On the contrary, it is considered very rude in the US and Europe to forget a tip. Also, you can actually manage in India by 5% or so (if at all), whereas the norm is 15-20% in the US and Europe.

Hahahahha somehow the culture in Singapore and HK is very different. In fact, sometimes people refuse the tip u give them. The restaurants charge 15% of the bill amount as service charges anyways!

You convert everything back to dollars (or into the currency of the foreign place u came) and find everything cheap in India as a result!

You can’t cross the streets without a ignal and crossing to help!

You expect service at shop counters and complaints to be taken seriuosly!

You grumble abt the weather the dirt the quality of everything and what not!
