Movie Review: 3 Idiots – Lively and Effervescent

[Warning: Spoiler Alert]

Saw the much awaited latest Aamir Khan starrer 3 idiots last weekend. Took me a while to write the review coz I was not able to make up my mind about the movie. Believe me or not, thats the real reason.

With the much hoopla about the new look of Aamir in the movie and the aggressive promotional campaign, which involved Aamir and the other 2 idiots being all over the place… the Classy Khan playing hide and seek… and the works… To top Aamir’s excellence was Vidhu Vinod Chopra‘s near-perfect comic escapades. After all, who can ever forget the legend created by Munna Bhai and Circuit. It cant be denied that Munnabhai series have a special place in all our hearts – for they not only entertained but also tackled the profoundest of thoughts with the simplest of means! They enlightened without being preachy!

And so, I was waiting for 3 idiots with bated breath, just like the rest of the country! Expectations were soaring and I wasnt sure if this movie wud meet all of them – Its almost unrealistic and even criminal to demand so!

And then came 25th December 2009 and the verdict was clear: Aamir and VVC had delivered – yet again!

Something is gravely wrong with our law system! — December 22, 2009

Something is gravely wrong with our law system!

Law is supposed to protect us… not strangle!! It was bad enough that politicians all over India are blaming the victims of a rape for having invited it, Supreme Court goes out to say

A husband and his relatives cannot be prosecuted for “cruelty” towards wife merely because the mother-in-law or other family members had kicked her or for that matter threatened her with divorce!

I believe they can be prosecuted only after the lady gets murdered or divorced…. and even then, her family members may not have enough money to fight the case in the courts for decades!!

I am truly aghast!!! If law enforcers in our country do this, where will the common man go?

Book Review: Gaban by Munshi Premchand – Unbearable! — December 17, 2009

Book Review: Gaban by Munshi Premchand – Unbearable!

Sorry for the long hiatus… Noobie and I had gone on a 3-week holiday to India and that was super hectic, with us shuttling from one place to another!

Now that I am back to Singapore, normal life is slowly getting restored… and my apologies for not having responded to all your wonderful comments, will do so in the earliest.

Meanwhile, I got a chance to read Gaban by Munshi Premchand, one of my fav Hindi authors and to say the least, I was truly disappointed. The book is about a confused and weak man who keeps running from all problems and his first-greedy-and-then-sensible-wife who undergoes this awesome transition.

Initially the book is interesting and keeps you hooked, but very soon you start loosing interest because of the plethora of too many characters being introduced at various stages and too many twists in the story. It becomes a very exhausting read. It should have been properly edited with irrelevant portions taken out. They truly drag the story and take the punch out of it.

In short, a book that should be avoided at all costs.

Not worth your time!
