Day 1: Road trip to Iceland

30th July ’22

We left our airbnb at Reykjavik at 11 in the morning and went straight to Gerðuberg Cliffs stopping for coffee and amazing fruit tea at Geirabakari kaffihus. Gerðuberg cliffs were very slippery to walk up but amazing views from the top.

After that we went directly to Guesthouse Hof. It is by far the most scenic place I’ve lived at. Pretty huts by the ocean surrounded by mountains.

After checking in, we set off for Hellnar, ended up making an unplanned stop at waterfall, which was gorgeous. Some of us went hiking all the way to the top and drank fresh waterfall water.

After the pit stop we went to Hellnar, beautiful black and white stones on the beach.

After Hellnar, we went to Snæfellsjökull. We were the only people there so the kids had a ball playing on the snow. The view of the snow peak mountain was beautiful.

From here we went to Kirkjufell. It is supposed to be the highlight of the area with a few small waterfalls at the backdrop of mountain. This is one of the most pictured spots of Iceland. Junior S was super cranky and sleepy so Senior S had to miss this. Honestly he didn’t miss much as it was quite okay.

The ride back home after this was a 50 min ride, everyone was super tired. I had trouble keeping my eyes open for the last 30 mins of the drive. After reaching Guesthouse Hof, we made 2 packets of Ready-to-eat Paneer Makhani with some chana paratha and thepla. Kids slept by 1130pm. It was super bright and it really messes with your ability to wind down. The midnight brightness will definitely need some getting used to 🙂
