No, it is not a school which has banned girls from wearing sleeveless…
No, it is not a college where the ban has been enforced…
Rather, a multinational IT company in Pune…
All, I can tell them is Grow Up!! 🙄

Sleeveless to women in office is like skirts to girls in schools. My school banned skirts for girls (terrorism in punjab) and I hated it.
See school me there are uniforms!! But, office me how can they ban? That too sleeveless? Its like going back to 17th century!!
I am against any kind of dress code… be it in school or office… one should be free to wear anything they want…
and how does it matter how one dresses… I have seen my maid who dresses shabbily say some real motivating stuff..
I think everything has its own place… I am all for a school with uniform… gives a kind of sense of belongingness and discipline… For instance, I loved my school uniform.. still have it with me… Even Army men have uniforms… it makes them distinguishable and unique…
But banning sleeveless is like ancient!!
Ohhh..that’s really sad…Its really like going back to 17th century 😦
Absolutely 😦
Even in my company, if anyone wears sleeveless, HR will come and will start talking about it .. Even though it’s not banned ..
After banning such stuffs, where’s the freedom of speech, expression and lifestyle that India has always been proud about ?? .. Where’s the democracy ?? ..
Silly stuff really .. I really dont understand how clothes can make you more skilled or intelligent or hardworking !!
Its weird!! What has sleeveless got to do with your being professional or unprofessional!??
Formal clothes do make you a little more focussed… get u into the mood… If i were to wear shorts to work, I wud probably still be as casual as I wud be at home…
I dont quite agree to you when you say ** Formal clothes do make you a little more focussed… get u into the mood **
I may be able to code more efficiently if I’m in jeans or in track pants or in shorts with a casual environemnt and casual – chilled out- relax mind ..
That’s the sole reason why Microsoft / Google / Yahoo hv igher employee satisfaction index .. they dont hv dress code .. u can wear anything .. All of my friend inUS go to their companies in jeans and shorts only ..
OMG !!!!
What’s all this ???? Isnt a working woman mature enough to decide what she wants to wear ?????
Why are others deciding things like these, for women in India ??????
Talk about rights!!! Its disgusting! And its one of the top IT companies m talking about!
🙄
Doesnt even warrant a comment!! GOD!!!
🙄
Grow up HR!! 😡
I don’t think sleeveless tops are suitable for office environment.
Chica…don’t you think that is a personal view? I personally think jeans are unsuitable but I know there are people and industries where it is totally acceptable. So I stick to formals and get into jeans on friday. My office has banned skirts, but the floor above has women wearing these superb fitting long skirts, which look so much better than ill-fitting trousers on some females! I think we should call for a culture where people wear clothes responsively which are not vulgar.
But oh…. ignore me…I’m just a poor HR dame who gets all preachy at times 😛
😆
Dont mind decent ones… have seen some people revealing too much… tht’s y i said it’s not suitable for offices.
As far as I know Jeans are not allowed in almost all offices in US on regular days. Only on casual friday one can wear Jeans or other casual clothing.
Was not aware of that…
I feel so bad for the guys in that organization.
I just hope that they don’t tender a mass resignation. 😉
… and we thought that IT was a symbol of a new, modern India !!!
What next ?
Cover you heads especially in front of your seniors 😛 ??
If you’d see the kind of clothes females at my workplace wear, you’d be banning formals too 😀
People who want to dress shabbily or revealingly will always find a way to. Like wearing a salwar of the most transparent kinds. Or a business suit with a deep plunging neckline. bans like these are so useless!
Ha ha .. well said 😉
Which co. is it?
LOl 😛 They hv got to grow up indeed 😉
I wont really like to comment on the attitude of company because I don’t really know weather they have banned Sleeveless, because of obscenity of the Employees or promoting Professional behaviour among the employees.
How would you consider if men wore sleeveless to office? Informal na? 🙄
But ladies wearing the same to office = formal? I don’t agree with that. 😐
Even if it was a Friday (Casual wear)! 😉
To the IT company, way to go! 🙂
lol.. 😀 😀
you make a point!
Sheesh..they need to get a life!!!
gawd…why?…they think working women aren’t mature enough to think for themselves as to what is appropriate to wear to work?
Way back, we had a teacher in the university who used to wear sari with sleeveless blouse. We boys used to like her dress sense and were wondering why not women take the liberty of wearing sleeveless blouses. The teacher looked awesome in that attire with her well toned, slender upper arms. Our own class girls weren’t bold enough to wear one. I don’t see anything wrong wearing sleeveless dresses.
One of the readers commented that “Ohhh..that’s really sad…Its really like going back to 17th century “. Going that back in history, I don’t think Indian women wore blouses at all with their sari. Only thing they wouldn’t have done is that shaving their under arms! Well, in Europe most of them do not shave. They are natural that way. Even today in some of the remote places in India women do not wear blouses(especially rural areas). Hats off to the bollywood actresses who popularize sleeveless dresses. I wonder if wearing sleeveless dresses is a man imposed restriction or women restrict women?
For real??? Geez! I forget…are we living in the 21st century? Anyone could be forgiven for thinking we live in the 18th century at the moment…
Wearing sleeveless is not even anything special, I don’t know what’s wrong with this company. The more the girls cover themselves up, the more the rapists and molesters salivate. When will people grow up and stop blaming the women!
FOOLS !!
Happens. I really curvy girl was not given a job recently, since it was felt that her presence in the work-place would distract men and reduce work efficiency
Hmm, I think this sort of sexist behavior is rampant. In the office environment people try and look as plain as possible!! They have to act as if the offices are filled with out of control animals!! It’s ridiculous.
You got to be kidding me!!
Ditto with many angered commenter here. This is stupidity and lack of maturity. I would choose to resign. Who would want to work for such immature organization?
Goodness! They certainly need to grow up! I don’t understand who thinks up such archaic rules! That too in a professional organization!
They do!! They so do!!
Crazy is the word that comes to my mind!
How dare they?!
Well… they are!!
The way I see it, our forefathers were more ‘modern’. We are trying to go back to stone age, well then people did not wear any clothes.
Yes, they need to grow up and be mature adults.
Its idiotic, really!
To grow up is to invite trouble. You should know better.
Really???? thats absurd!! Absolutely pathetic! you said it right they need to grow up!
Yes, they need to!!
Grow up .. lol … I have a very serious doubt if they will …. 😐
Joke of the yr man…
Aryan’s mom
BTW- Very nice header….
Hmm…I don’t know but there are many offices in US where sleeveless is banned or for that matter when the code of dress is moderate then that includes No sleeveless/shorts etc. When we wear short skirts then it should be combined with nylons. Sleeveless is okay when one is in the room but in a meeting mostly a shirt suit to cover it would be more appropriate. That was the rule of my company and I like formal attires.
Hey!!! I’m back!! 😀
HOw’s married life?
Heya! Nice to see you back! Its good fun 🙂
this is the limit!! a company is banning sleeveless.. i guess now college children shudnt even bother protesting against similar rules in their college.. wat ever happened to freedom???
btw, ur banner pic is pretty.:)i like.
Thanks Mandira. Yeah its rather silly!!
LMAO!!!
That’s really sad
Yes it is!
