I am not sure if this is an idiosyncracy! But, I have this peculiar habit! I just cant finish a book completely… CAN’T! I almost always have this need to go through the last 10-15 pages in a hurried pace! The only thing in my mind then is to finish the book!!!
This is irrespective of the topic or the subject or any damn thing for that matter! There are no exceptions that I know of!!!
It comes to chapters when it came to subjects I was studying… I would always not know the end few topics of a chapter! I would always simply skip them! Still dont know why!!!
I tried a different technique once by starting a chapter from the back! But it doesnt work always you see!
No, its not a sudden realisation! Its just that I have taken more time to finish the last 15 pages of Memoirs of a Geisha than the entire 500-page book!!!
Does this happen to you too?
[PS This is my 500th post!
Yay!

@Nova…I think you are definitely not telling the truth here ….u seem to be a harry potter fan and if u r telling me that it took u much longer to read the last few chapters/pages of the book or that you missed the ending, then you gotta be kidding me so “There are no exceptions that I know of!!!” must be wrong right ?

@Shyam: Actually I meant it when I said there are no exceptions! Even while reading HP the first times i read through them fast… Its only when i read them again did i take my own sweet time…

I think you just start reading faster as you reach the end. It is not the case with you it seems.

Nova, I wonder if this is the first time I am commenting here. I think I have come to your blog before but I don’t remember.
Anyway, I have this same compulsive habit. I read the end first but then I go back and start from the beginning and at times I read the middle and then go back! It’s very hard to control myself from not reading the ending! However I have improved slightly but not totally.

@Amit: Actually I am the fastest in the first few chapters! And thats when I start going downhill!
@Nita: Guess u have been here before. Dont know when though
Wow! You have a scary habit… If i knew the end, I wouldnt even be able to finish the book… It would feel like I have already read it. Good you are improving on that! And yeah, keep coming back

@Nita : How can you read a book like that?
@Nova : Yes, this happens with me too at times. But if the story holds my interest, then I wind it up pretty fast. Sphere, Da Vinci Code and The Kite Runner were three such books which I actually sprinted through.

I liked this post, coz what you are talking about in this post is a very peculiar idiosyncrasy…some of my friends do the same.
